This painting depicts linear pattern 'body paint design'. The Aboriginal women paint their breasts and shoulders for ceremonies, which include song and dance used to tell their ancient stories. The concentric circles symbolise ceremonies or meeting place.

These beautiful, unique rugs are a cross-cultural collaboration combining Aboriginal designs and traditional Kashmiri rug-making techniques. Chain stitched, using hand dyed wool and finished with a heavy cotton backing, each rug is a completely handmade piece. These rugs have non-slip backing and a sleeve for hanging rod.

Mary Napangardi Brown was born in a bush camp at Mt Doreen, a cattle station southwest of Yuendumu in the Northern Territory, and grew up living a traditional lifestyle, learning to gather bush tucker, make ceremonial necklaces, and understand Aboriginal law. Her family was later relocated to Yuendumu, where she lived with her husband, before moving to Mt Liebig and then Nyirripi, where she still resides and is now married to renowned Papunya Tula artist Ronnie Jampijinpa.

Mary began painting in the early 1990s, and although her access to materials was limited in Nyirripi, she has painted consistently since 2005 with the support of Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, which delivers supplies weekly. Her work draws on Jukurrpa (Dreaming) stories passed down through generations, and she paints using a modern, unrestricted palette to interpret traditional culture. Mary comes from a family of artists, including her sisters and niece, and has three sons in Yuendumu; she is also a grandmother actively involved in caring for her grandchildren.
