Moulded from a piece within Tony’s renowned Aboriginalia collection, a body of work that reclaims and recontextualises objects tied to the historical representation of Aboriginal culture, each vase becomes a shared canvas, collaboratively hand-painted by both artists. The collaboration brings together Tony’s ongoing exploration of identity, history and cultural memory with Courtenay’s vibrant contemporary visual language, creating a series of unique works that balance storytelling, reclamation and experimentation with an underlying sense of humour and playfulness. Together, the artists transform the found object into a collaborative exchange between generations and practices within contemporary Australian art, layering the vase with satire, personality and the joy of creating side by side.
