Tote Bag | Stephen Jupurrula Nelson | Janganpa Jukurrpa
Janganpa Jukurrpa (Common Brush-tail Possum Dreaming) moves across Warlpiri Country, centred on Mawurrji near Yuendumu. Possum ancestors forage at Wirlki and Wanapirdi for flying ants and seek water at Ngarlkirdipini. A Nampijinpa woman and her two daughters, promised to a Jupurrurla possum man, flee; he pursues and kills them, and their bodies become rocks at Mawurrji. This Jukurrpa informs young men’s initiation and belongs to Jakamarra/Jupurrurla men and Nakamarra/Napurrurla women; paintings depict E-shaped tracks and concentric circles for trees and sacred sites.
