Thomas J Price: Matter of Place | Author: Thomas J Price
For the first time, Thomas J Price, one of the most important British artists of his generation, exhibits outside his home country in Europe. This catalogue represents two decades of his creation.
Thomas J Price is celebrated for his large-scale figurative sculptures, but also works with performance, photography, and animation. His sculptures are not images of real people, but fictional "heroes of everyday life", as he calls them. In doing so, he consistently questions preconceived opinions on representation and identity. Price places the individual's intrinsic value and the subversion of hierarchical structures at the center of his works to ask key questions: who is seen in a society? Who is depicted? What features and signs are our perceptions based on?
