T-shirt | Target | Tony Albert | MCA

Sale price$75.00 AUD

Created in collaboration with Tony Albert for his exhibition Not A Souvenir at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, this limited-edition T-shirt features Albert’s recurring target motif, rendered in textured red flock across the chest. Only 100 have been produced.

Appearing throughout Albert’s practice, including the celebrated Brothers series, the target is a powerful and enduring symbol within his work. Referencing histories of racism, surveillance and the representation of First Nations people in Australia, Albert reclaims the motif as an assertion of visibility, resilience and solidarity. Designed to be worn by all, this piece invites allyship and conversation while acknowledging the ongoing significance of Albert’s practice.

About the Artist:
Tony Albert (Girramay, Yidinji and Kuku-Yalanji peoples) is one of Australia's leading contemporary artists. His practice considers the way Aboriginal peoples and cultures have been commodified and misrepresented, both historically and today, while celebrating survival and cultural pride.

Working across photography, sculpture, assemblage, installation and painting, Albert often reclaims and recontextualises historical objects and imagery drawn from popular culture. Through his bold and dynamic visual language, he challenges stereotypical views of Aboriginal peoples and cultures by emphasising First Nations strength and empowerment.
