Socks | Hunter | Tony Albert | MCA
Created in collaboration with Tony Albert to accompany his exhibition Not a Souvenir at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, these socks are a reference to his work Headhunter.
About the Artist:
Tony Albert (Girramay, Yidinji and Kuku-Yalanji peoples) is one of Australia's leading contemporary artists. His practice considers the way Aboriginal peoples and cultures have been commodified and misrepresented, both historically and today, while celebrating survival and cultural pride.
Working across photography, sculpture, assemblage, installation and painting, Albert often reclaims and recontextualises historical objects and imagery drawn from popular culture. Through his bold and dynamic visual language, he challenges stereotypical views of Aboriginal peoples and cultures by emphasising First Nations strength and empowerment.
