From Pondi (the Murray Cod), Ngurunderi created all the fish in the Murray River, the lakes, Coorong, and the lagoons of Ngarrindjeri Country.

Pondi is the Murray Cod who was chased down the Murray River by Ngurunderi in his canoe. At that time, it was only a small stream. Ngurunderi was searching for his two wives, who had run away from him, and he followed Pondi as the great fish created the twists and turns of the river by sweeping his enormous tail from side to side. Throughout the journey, Ngurunderi tried to spear Pondi.
