Manburrba: our story of printed cloth from Babbarra Women's Centre | Author: Joanna Barrkman

Charles Darwin University Art Gallery is delighted to present the exhibition, Manburrba - our stories of printed cloth from Babbarra Women's Centre. In the Kuninjku language of Arnhem Land, manburrba is the word for 'cloth'. The textiles presented in this exhibition reflect the vigour and dynamism of the women artists of Maningrida, Central Arnhem Land; their art teems with life and vitality. This survey exhibition features more than 85 striking and colourful hand-printed textiles made by 24 artists, as well as limited edition prints-on-paper, sculptures and basketry.

This publication is dedicated to the memory of J. Kamanj Wurrkidj (1973-2023), an accomplished artist and member of Babbarra Women's Centre. She was a much-loved daughter, mother, sister, wife, grandmother and friend to many.
