The Kewpie doll is a brand of dolls with a rich history that dates back to the early 1900's - since becoming highly collectable. Their name is derived from "Cupid", the Roman god. Conceived as comic strip characters by cartoonist Rosie O'Neill, the idea for these sweet little dolls came to her in a dream. She describes the dolls as "a sort of little round fairy whose one idea is to teach people to be merry and kind at the same time."
Generation after generation have grown up with this iconic doll - the Victorian tradition of handing out Kewpies as at carnivals continues to this day as they have become a classic part of the experience of Sydney's Royal Easter Show. The dolls are still extremely popular today with boys, girls and adults. A fantastic nostalgic gift for a collector or use in shadow boxes, in party bags or even as cake toppers!
