About the work
This series of limited-edition prints by John Wolseley are sold exclusively through the MCA Store. They coincide with a major presentation of his work in The National 2021: New Australian Art at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia.
The prints are unique and reveal the hand of the artist, who has hand-painted in watercolour onto each work. To make the series, Wolseley has used various printmaking techniques such as woodcut, etching and chine-collé, a technique used in conjunction with printmaking processes such as etching or lithography, that results in a two-layered paper support.
They are signed and numbered by the artist and unframed. Please note that print shown framed is not available online - it is included to demonstrate how beautifully it presents once framed. All prints are available in-store and online. To view all prints in the series, click here.
About the artist
Born 1938, Somerset, England. Lives and works on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, Whipstick Forest, Victoria.
John Wolseley describes himself as a hybrid of an artist and scientist. He uses watercolour, collage, frottage, nature printing and other methods of direct physical or kinetic contact to document the state of the Earth and consider the ways in which life dwells and moves within the landscape. Over the past decade, Wolseley has worked in conversation with Yolŋu artist Mulkuṉ Wirrpanda to document the edible and medicinal plants, creatures and termite mounds of North-Eastern Arnhem Land. This resulted in the major touring exhibition Midawarr Harvest in 2017 and subsequent displays, including the presentation of both senior artists’ works in The National 2021.
These limited-edition prints are proudly supported by Major Partner, Ray White, in celebration of 10 years of partnership with the MCA. John Wolseley is represented by Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney.
