The location depicted in Parnngurr Rockhole (2015) is one of the first sites marking the beginning of the second Minyipuru songline ( Seven Sisters ) that loosely follows the Canning Stock Route. Panngurr rock hole also has historical significance to Martu people. During the pujiman (bush) days it was recognised as a permanent yenta (waterhole) and many families would meet at Parnngurr rock hole before travelling to other places.

Bugai Whyoulter was born at Pukayiyirna, Westeran Australia. Bugai lived nomadically with her family and later with her husband before eventually deciding to move to Jigalong Mission, joining many other relatives that had already travelled in from the desert following a prolonged and severe drought. In more recent years she has lived in Kunawarritji community, where she was taught to paint by relatives Nora Nungabar and Nora Wompi. Today Bugai is considered one of the most established Martumili Artists, and is known as a master of colour, gesture and subtlety.
